I have been excited by the response to getting Sustaining translated into Turkish and now am excited to anounce that I have formatted a new version that puts the guide in parallel text format.  This means that each page has Turkish on the left and the  English on the right.  You can read more about Parallel Texts and how to use them at my latest EDLL post, Language Learning Tip: Use Parallel Texts.

I would love to hear your thoughts on the guide, on the translation and on how Sustaining has encouraged you on the language learning journey.  Be sure and share this post and Sustaining (which is FREE) with all of your friends who are learning Turkish too.

If you liked Sustaining, would you please stop by Amazon and leave a review.  It would be much appreciated.

Turkish in Three Months - Really! 01/16/2012

I wanted to share this video with everyone as it is of an accomplished polyglot speaking Turkish after just three months.  Please remember that Richard already speaks 16 or more languages.  He is really quite amazing and if you watch his videos you will see just how amazing.  Anyway, he does a great job and after just three months too.  I am impressed.

So yes, you can learn Turkish in three months, but. . . .

It helps to be an accomplished polyglot!

For the rest of us, have fun, work hard and put in the time.  It will come!

In Need of Motivation and a New Turkish Resource? 12/31/2011

I am super excited to announce that my free ebook, The Everyday Language Learner's Guide to Sustaining has been translated into Turkish.  A friend of mine and reader of The Everyday Language Learner blog took it upon herself to translate it and I have gotten it all formated and put together and uploaded to the web today.  It is a pdf ebook and can be read simply by clicking on the link below.

I am working at figuring out how to create a side by side Turkish/English version, but for now you will have to read them seperately.  I wrote the guide nine months ago as a resource for those struggling with motivation on the language learning journey.  Thousands have read the English version and now I am excited that it might also encourage Turks who have yet to master English.  This is all part of Project I-586 and I hope to have all of my guides translated into Turkish this year and into a few other languages as well.

I would like to next have a native Turkish speaker record the ebook to put on the podcast for your Turkish listening pleasure.  If any of you would like to have a Turkish friend make the recording, please send me an email.  I'd love to have your help.

As well, feel free to share the Turkish version with your Turkish friends via Facebook, email or Twitter. I'd love to see it spread and help as many people as possible.

And here it is:            Turkish Version          English Version

Turkish Comes to LingQ 12/02/2011

I was extremely excited to recieve an email today from LingQ Headquarters announcing that Turkish would be the next language added to their great site.  It is in the BETA stages now, but should be great. I have used Spanish at LingQ and think it is a great site and want to encourage all of you Turkish learners to take a look.  Here is a link to the announcement: Turkish is Now on LIngQ.  This should be a great resource and will get better as it grows.  There is also always listening to be had at LingQ and it will be another great resource for Turkish language learners.

Last year as I was just getting The Everyday Language Learner up and running I ran a series called The Online Resource Tour and featured LingQ in one of the articles.  You can read it HERE.

Make sure and stop by LingQ today and become part of the LingQ community.

Today I came across a new website for language learners called Pronunciator.  It has 60 languages available and could be a fun way to review basic vocabulary in any language - including Turkish.  The program is pretty cool and free. It can be just a normal audio flash card system with pictures, but it also has a lot of other goodies that I am just beginning to discover; voice recognition, quizes, spelling and a lot more.  A great site for beginners to get started with as part of an overall program.  Check it out HERE.  If any of you use it a bit, let me know what you thing.

Helping others learn language is one of my passions and so if you are just getting started learning Turkish, I would encourage you to check out The Ten Week Journey program over at my other website, The Everyday Language Learner.   You could also drop by the EDLL Youtube Channel for great tips and ideas.

And speaking of Youtube, I added two new videos to the Youtube page today. One is a Smurfs cartoon from the days of old in honor of the recently released movie - which I haven't seen.  The other is a scene from the Cars movie.

New Resources 09/01/2011

Well it has been a while, but today I want to tell you about two new resources I have to help you become better Turkish learners. The first is one of my favorite guides from Chris Guillebeau of The Art of Non-Conformity.  His Brief Guide to World Domination was an inspirational read and I just found out that it has been translated into Turkish!  Read the English version first and then go back and read the Turkish version.

The second resource is my upcoming Everyday Language Learner's Guide to Getting Started. This comprehensive guide is all about helping you become the best language learner you can be. It comes in both the Beginner and Intermediate Editions and will be a great resource for learners of any language.  On September 8th, I'll have a one day $1.00 sale for anyone subscribed to The Everyday Language Learner blog.  If you are subscribed to the Handcrafted Audio podcast at iTunes, you have probably already introduction to the Audio Lesson Series and Chapter One of the guide.

I have been working hard to get things going with this guide this summer, but hope to get more Turkish audio up on the site this fall.  As always, if you have great audio or know where it can be found on the web, please let me know.  Together we can build a better site!

Oh, and there is a great new website as well that all Turkish Learner's should check out: Turkish Learners

New Resources and Looking For Help 05/27/2011

I wanted to point you to a couple of new resources for language learners that I have created over at my other blog, The Everyday Language Learner.  The first is The Everyday Language Learner's Guide to Sustaining.  It is a short ebook dedicated to help you think more clearly about creating, maintaining and protecting your motivation, commitment and attitude toward learning the language.  Oh, and it's FREE.

The second resource is The Everyday Language Learner's Guide to Self-Assessment.  This short guide is a tool you can use to help you know where you are at so you can get to where you want to go.  I have had a lot of great feedback about this self-assessment tool.  There is nothing like it out there and I am excited to see independent language learners begin to use it.  It is for sale at the site for $10.00.

I would also like to ask you for your help.  I have less and less time to devote to working at this blog.  I espcially haven't found any time to create any new handcrafted audio lately.  So I would like to ask you for your help.  If and when you come across new audio files in Turkish or new sources of audio or video that you think would be a good resource for other Turkish language learners, would you mind taking the time to send me a link so that I can put it up on the site.  That would be great!  As well, feel free to send me your handcrafted audio along with a transcript and I will put that together and put it up on the podcast and give you full credit of course.

Together we can make this a great site for Turkish language learners.

If you have found this site helpful, consider subscribing by email so that you can keep up to date with new additions.

I recently learned about an artist whose music I really like and who is one of those rocking amazing guys.  His name is Jon Simpson and he is taking on Sex Trafficking with his event called Olivia's Song.  He was recently in Turkey and so released the Olivia's Song Trailer with Turkish Subtitles.  Check it out.  Great little Turkish lesson and a pretty big issue.  Thanks Jon for taking a stand.

After you listen, skip back up to the top and share it on Facebook or Twitter. Thanks.

A New Turkish Learning Site: Türkçe Çozelim 04/27/2011

I recently subscribed to a new blog that offers a daily dose of Turkish.  Chuck Wade of Izmir  puts together the daily posts at Turkce Cozelem, a site created to both share a bit of Turkish and a daily Bible reading.  Here is what Chuck says on the site:

I created this blog as a way to help myself (and possibly you) study Turkish.
Every morning post will be one verse from the New Testament, with new words explained, a basic translation and finally the English (ESV) translation at the bottom.

By subscribing to the RSS feed for email, each post will come to your inbox giving you a quick look at new words and grammar forms.  This can be a great two minute blast of Turkish and can help add a little Turkish to your regular work day.  A little bit everyday is an important remedy for success as a language learner.  I have used it this way and it's been a great Turkish interruption to my already busy days.  Check it out yourself.
